21st Century Media & Sports


Program Description:

This media literacy workshop is designed to allow

students an opportunity to learn how media plays such

an important role in the world of sports. Media

literacy increases critical and analytical thinking

skills. Students will participate in group

discussions, hands on activities (sports related) to include:

· The importance of health and nutrition relative to physical performance

· Participants will explore unique, alternative ways to use conditioning techniques / exercises recommended by fitness and conditioning coaches relative to all sports

· Participants will also use the Arts (music, dance, skits, plays, etc.) to demonstrate what they learn and present a final performance showcase to conclude their workshop

· Participants will explore a variety of media formats (print, electronic,

etc.), examine testimonials, interviews with successful

athletes / coaches and professional sports broadcast

professionals (any special guest will be announced

prior to each class registration). Students may do a

Q/A session with any visiting guest (student athletes /

journalist, professional athletes and related

professionals in the sports industry). Students

interested in working with media to cover sports (news

reporter, announcer, sports writer, TV / radio

broadcasting, etc.) will learn how all forms of media

are used as communication tools and how they will

benefit by becoming media literate in today’s 21st

century society.


Dates: Monday-Thursday

Times: 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm (after school programs) 

  10:00 am to 11:30 am / 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm (Day School / Summer Camps) 

Duration: 90 mins. Sessions
